Are there any Tafsir apps available? How do Tafsir Apps work?
You’ve read the entire Quran in Arabic and English. However, that’s not enough. You want to learn more.
Download a Tafsir App
Fortunately there are several free apps in the market that allow you to read the Tafsir of Quran in your preferred language. I recommend Al-Quran.
What is Tafsir?
When reading the Quran, chances are there were some verses that you did not understand. Let’s take a look at an example from surah Abasa (chapter 80):
He frowned and turned ˹his attention˺ away, simply˺ because the blind man came to him ˹interrupting˺, You never know ˹O Prophet˺, perhaps he may be purified
(Quran 30:1-3)
Who frowned? What was the blind man interrupting? I need context.
The above verse does not specify any of the details above, however the Tafsir can answer your questions.
The author of a tafsir is referred to as a mufassir. A Quranic tafsir attempts to provide elucidation, explanation, interpretation, context or commentary for clear understanding of the Quran. One of the most famous Tafsirs is the Tafsir of Ibn Katheer.
What Tafsir Apps Do You Recommend?
One app gives me everything I need.
Al Quran (Tafsir & by word)
This Tafsir app is available on both Android and IOS (Iphone). It provides a list of several Quranic Tafsirs, including the Tafsir of Ibn Katheer.
The app can be complicated at first glance, but once you understand the basics it becomes super easy to use in routine.
Please note Islamic Music Hub is not affiliated with this app in any way, advice given is genuine to help you come closer to Islam.
Step-by-step guide on how to use the app below.
How to use the Al Quran Tafsir App
Step 1 – Download the app
Step 2 – Select a Surah
Simply select your desired Surah from the list
Step 3 – Select a Verse
The verses of the selected Surah appears, both Arabic and English text.
You can actually change your English translator via the settings menu, from Marmaduke Pitcthall to Yusuf Ali. Also, try clicking on an Arabic word to understand the meaning of that specific word in English or your preferred language.
Click on the three dots on the desired verse to open an additional menu:
Step 4 – Select Tafsir
Select the Tafsir option, this will take you to the tafsir page for that particular verse.
Step 5 – Read and Repeat
The tafsir of Ibn Katheer will show by default. Read the tafsir and move onto the next verse.
I like to read the tafsir and hit the back button once done. I then bookmark the verse I have read to mark it as ‘done’.
