Might not be right

Might Not Be Right by Waqas ft Safe Adam & Lenny

Waqas: Might Not Be Right Download

Outlandish were a band you could catch on both Islam Channel and MTV – an odd combination that was unheard of back when they formed in 1997.

The group were best known for tracks such as ‘Aisha’, ‘Walou’ and ‘Callin’ You’. ‘Kom Igen’ was used in a Fifa video game, and ‘Guantanamo’ made a strong impression in the EU charts.

Furthermore, they collaborated with well-known Nasheed artists such as Sami Yusuf and Native Deen.

The group disbanded in 2017, however that doesn’t mean they left the music world…

Download the new track: ‘Might Not Be Right‘.

About The Song

Might Not Be Right’ is an independent release from former Outlandish member Waqas.

Waqas created an early version of this track with well-known singer Safe Adam. Once complete he showed it to Lenny (former Outlandish member), who was so impressed he asked if he could feature on it.

It’s fantastic to see these three working together, each adding their own flavour to the song. The trio have toured together on many occasions, even before collaborating.

The track is upbeat, full of energy and well-produced. I wouldn’t be surprised if it got air time on non-Muslim radio and TV stations.

But how does this track relate to Islam?

Islamic music varies greatly. Some songs emphasis a particular Quranic quote or hadith, while others focus on Dhikr.

One common theme in modern day Nasheeds is to give out a positive faith-inspired message. ‘Might Not Be Right’ does just that by giving out a positive message of encouragement.

What’s the message?

It’s about taking on new tasks, ideas or challenges.

Sometimes we get the feeling that the ideas we take on in life might not be right. This can apply to big long-term objectives or small self-changes.

Why do we get this feeling?

Society can make us feel like we need to behave and act in a certain way. We often conform to these rules and feel uncomfortable when we sway.

Do You Conform?

Asch conducted a psychological experiment on conformity in 1951, the results of which are shocking and a little humorous.

He presented participants with drawings of three lines, and asked them which ones matched.

Asch_experiment

The answer was clearly C however 75% of participants answered incorrectly.

Surprised?

The setup of the experiment may have influenced the responses.

Asch had asked a number of other people to give answers before the participant, only these people were actually in on the experiment (confederates) and gave the wrong answer on purpose.

The participants were clearly influenced by the others, showing the power of conformity. See the Asch experiment in action.

Many of the participants said that they knew the answer was incorrect, but didn’t want to face the awkwardness of going against the crowd.

Further studies have found that this idea of fitting in appears to be far more common in Eastern cultures, but applies to the West too.

So let’s take a look at some Islamic examples of decisions that might not seem right, due to the pressures of society.

Good Actions That Might Not Feel Right

Some examples of positive actions we might feel pressure to go against include:

  • Giving Up Swearing
  • Avoid Drinking
  • Giving to Charity
  • Not Skipping A Prayer
  • Telling Truth Without Exaggeration

Never Swearing Again

Imagine if someone claimed they had never said a swear word in their life – likely responses would be “Really!?”. “Why!”, “Not even once!”.

The idea of swearing has become so common in society that it is hard to believe anyone who claims they have never said a bad word.

Someone who decides to give up swearing for the sake of Allah might feel like they are doing wrong if questioned like this over and over.

But bad language is highly discouraged in Islam, and a goal of this nature should be followed through.

“O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one’s] faith. And whoever does not repent – then it is those who are the wrongdoers” (Quran 49:11)

Avoiding The Drink

I’d love to say this only applies to Muslims living in the West, however the pressure to drink can be sky high in rich societies of Muslim countries too.

Someone who decides to avoid drinking alcohol should continue to do so. Did you know that the Muslims at the time of the prophet were heavy drinkers? They were able to overcome their habits and quit drinking altogether.

The first verse to be revealed in the Quran discouraged praying while in a drunken state. The Muslims significantly reduced their alcohol intake as a result of the verse.

“O you who believe, do not approach the Salat while intoxicated, until you know what you are saying.” (Quran 4:43)

Another verse was then revealed that banned alcohol altogether.

“O you who believe, intoxicants, gambling, altars and arrows of chance are afflictions that are the work of the devil; you shall ‘ijtanibuhu’ (stay away from him) so that you may succeed.” (Quran 5:90)

Give To Charity… If You Can

Almost everyone would agree that giving to charity is a fantastic idea, but ask the same people to give a portion of their monthly wage and it’s a different story.

Safe Adam has recently been working closely with the charity Penny Appeal, helping improve lives in Gambia.

Who are Penny Appeal?

Penny Appeal are a UK based charity known for putting on large events featuring Nasheed artists, comedians and other Muslim talent. There is always a charity appeal half way through their shows.

During these appeals, the fundraiser will start by asking for a large sum of money and gradually get lower. In UK events this might involve asking for £10,000 – and sure enough someone will put their hand up.

The thought of giving so much might not feel right for that individual.

But we say go for it!

When committing to such a large figure Allah will make it work out.

We often hold back from charity giving by convincing ourselves that we cannot afford it. We give old clothes that we no longer wear instead of new ones. We worry that we will loose all our wealth… however this is from Shaytan.

Satan threatens you with poverty and he commands you to immorality. But God promises you His forgiveness and bounty” (Quran 2:268).

Never Skip A Prayer

It’s 13:00 on a Friday and your meeting is over running. What do you do?

The awkwardness of being excused for prayer can be so off putting that people feel more comfortable skipping a prayer or two.

Rescheduling a meeting for prayer might feel uncomfortable, especially if you live in a non-Muslim country, however it’s the best way.

“And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow [in worship and obedience].” (Quran 2:43)

If you forget to pray, it’s best to offer it as soon as possible:

It was narrated from Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever forgets a prayer, let him offer it as soon as he remembers, for there is no expiation for it other than that.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (572) and Muslim (684); Muslim narrated an additional phrase: “or sleeps and misses it”.

Trying Not To Exaggerate

Chinese whispers was a fun game to play while young, however it should never mix with real life.

We seem to exaggerate stories to make them more interesting, eventful, believable or funny.

Telling the hard truth might seem abit boring at times (not right perhaps), but it’s important to keep facts from fiction. The Quran mentions this in a verse:

“And do not mix the truth with falsehood or conceal the truth while you know [it].” (Quran 2:42)

Might Not Be Right Music Video

The best thing about this video is that the singers produced and edited it themselves, along with the track.

The video is shot in three locations: Pakistan, Bahrain and UK.

Pakistani Waqas

Waqas brought a desi flavour to Outlandish, it seems he is proud to be Pakistani.

He started filming while out on vacation in Pakistan, and decided to include the footage as part of the ‘Might not be right’ video.

We see children playing cricket on the streets, teens hanging out a car boot and a few traditional Pakistani streets. On the last day Waqas found a train track, which features in a number of scenes.

Lenny’s Trip To Bahrain

Lenny happened to be heading over to Bahrain, and decided to do some filming over there.

We only catch a few glimpses of Bahrain, of tall buildings in particular. Perhaps this signifies ambition and achievement of dreams?

Safe At Home

Safe Adam’s part is filmed in his home country, the UK. The team meet up here to shoot some final scenes.

They appear to find a castle on a hill with an amazing backdrop as far as the eye can see. A perfect location for reflection.

Take a look at the video below.

Might Not Be Right Lyrics

Lyrics to ‘Might Not Be Right’ by Waqas, Safe and Lenny below.

HOOK
Might not be right
Got one chance in life – 1
So I will take my chance tonight

WAQAS
Living life like i’m in limbo
Gotta make a change, get to another level – 2
Dark and silence in here, Hello!
Got to light it up, Zippo!
I dont know what they done told ya
but you’re a soldier, dont let them control ya
Sip a lie, tell a lie, hear a lie enough times then you believe it yourself – 3
Push aside all the lies in disguise then you rise and you´ll see for yourself
That you dont know what you possess unless you seek it out for yourself

HOOK
Might not be right
I dont know why
Might not be right
but I got to let it go, let it it fly
Got one chance in life
How will I know if I dont try – 4
So I will take my chance tonight

SAFE ADAM
Cross this heart
But I don’t hope to die
When we clash two cultures
Sparks will fly – 5
Little did I know when i was growing up
That life really is no lullaby
Ring a ring a roses
This world is full of posers – 6
This life is full vultures
That will swoop down and steal your
Hovis bread
How many followers
How many likes
How many views – 7
till we say the songs nice
It doesn’t matter
So sets your sights high
We take on the world
As we roll the dice

HOOK
Might not be right
I dont know why
Might not be right
but I got to let it go, let it it fly
Got one chance in life
How will I know if I dont try
So I will take my chance tonight

LENNYGM
Yo vivo la vida / Estoy bien donde estoy
(I live my life / I’m fine where I am)
Vivo / Yo Creo / Yo soy el que soy
(I live / I believe / I am what I am)
Dejo llevarme / No se donde voy
(I let it take me / I do not know where I’m going)
Si me equivoco te pido perdon
(And If Im wrong, I apologise)

BRIDGE
It might not be right hey
But I’m searching for light
In a world full of darkeness
We don’t have the answers
To all of your questions
Tonight so I

HOOK
Might not be right
I dont know why
Might not be right
but I got to let it go, let it it fly
Got one chance in life
How will I know if I dont try
So I will take my chance tonight

Lyrics Analysis

Links to the Quran and hadith have been numbered (in purple) and presented below.

1 YOLO or YOLOT

Got one chance in life

The term YOLO doesn’t really apply to us Muslims, we tend to use YOLOT instead (you only live twice)

However this verse in the song specifically states that we only have one chance in life, possibly referring to life on earth.

That’s true.

Our life is a test, and we only get one chance at it. Those who do good will have a reward, and those who do bad will be punished. So let’s try to pass with an A+

“And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient” (Quran 2:155)

2 Three Levels To Complete

Gotta make a change, get to another level

There are three levels of faith: Islam, Eiman and I’hsan. Reaching the next level should be our goal.

A man asked the Messenger of Allah five questions: the meaning of Islam, Eiman, I’hsan, the Hour, and the Hour signs. Each time the prophet replied the man said ‘You have told the truth’. Once the man left the prophet informed his companions that this was actually the Angel Jibril. (Muslim)

3 Lies Become Truth

Sip a lie, tell a lie, hear a lie enough times then you believe it yourself

Hear a lie so many times and you might think it’s the truth. There is actually Psychological research to back this up known as the illusory truth effect.

“Surely Allah does not guide him aright who is a liar, ungrateful.” (Quran 39:3)

4 Keep Trying, It Will Pay

How will I know if I dont try

No matter how difficult or challenging things get, Allah will help.

“…After a difficulty, Allah will soon grant relief.” (Quran 65:7)

5 Clashing Cultures

When we clash two cultures Sparks will fly

A culture clash can cause issues at times, especially when marriage is involved.

However Allah created different cultures in order for us to understand one another, and learn from each other. We should seize the opportunity rather than focus on differences.

“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.” (Quran 49:13)

6 “Let Me Take Another One For My Insta”

This world is full of posers

You may have found this review through an Instagram or Facebook post, which is great. Social media can be a good way to share information.

However many people are using the tools to fill their ego, posting posing photos and monitoring the likes.

The idea of showing off is discouraged in Islam, so much that we hold back from wearing trousers below the ankles.

Why?

Back in the days of the prophet, people would boast their wealth by wearing long garments that dragged along the floor. The idea was that they were so rich, they could afford to ruin their garments. The prophet discouraged this by forbidding people to allow the lower garment below the ankle.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are three whom Allaah will not look at or praise on the Day of Judgement and theirs will be a painful punishment: the one who wears his garment below his ankles, the one who reminds others of his favours, and the one who sells his product by means of making false oaths” (reported by Muslim, no. 106)

We should be careful not to show off in all forms of life, from our clothing to social media snaps.

7 “OMG, That Insta Pic Got 30 Likes!”

How many followers, How many likes, How many views

Sometimes we obsess over stats so much that our lives start to revolve around them.

This can lead one away from the bigger picture in life. We should try and keep away from anything that distracts us from the remembrance of Allah.

You might think of it as a simple picture, but anything that takes someone away from Islam not good.

“Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire – of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allah has with Him the best return.” (Quran 3:14)

Final Thoughts

Waqas, Safe and Lenny have produced a fantastic track! I hope to see them working together again in the near future.

Many western Muslims have been brought up listening to mainstream songs by artists like such as Beyonce, Justin Beiber and Snoop Dogg. The idea of Nasheeds is a little boring for them. I feel a track like this can really bridge the gap between mainstream and religious music, helping bring those people closer to Islam.

Overall it’s great track!

Shukran Allah – Safe Adam

Safe Adam: Shukran Allah Download | MP3 (Amazon)

Safe Adam has teamed up with t-Series to bring you Shukran Allah, a popular Bollywood track.

The original Bollywood song has been sang many times, with different versions available on the web. For example, nasheed artist Nazeel Azmi did a version back in 2014.

Safe has applied a unique country-like sound to this song, creating a version that is truly his own. With an already popular hook, this track was set up to do well from the beginning.

So why has it been placed in the last position on the album?

One reason for this might be the mainstream nature of Safe’s work. He is targeting the entire Muslim world with his music, reaching out to countries such as Indonesia, Jordan and Nigeria. People from the sub-Indian continent are more likely to enjoy this specific track given the popularity of the original making it less mainstream – just a guess!

Let’s take a look at the lyrics while calling out any references to Quran and Hadith.

Safe Adam – Shukran Allah Lyrics

I started a journey
And i’m nowhere near the end
With every stumble
There’s a lesson to be learnt
And I got a message
And I want it to be heard – 1
With all the promises that life can lend

I got the world on my shoulders
But I don’t care
I got that faith in Allah
That’ll take me there
We got the world on our shoulders
But we don’t care
We have Allah in our hearts
And he’ll take us there

We’re moving mountains
We’re building the bridges – 2
When we fall down
We get up we got that vision
We’re moving mountains
We’re building bridges
When we fall down
We get up we got that vision

ShukranAllah, Wa Alhamdulillah – 3
ShukranAllah, Wa Alhamdulillah
ShukranAllah, Wa Alhamdulillah
ShukranAllah, Wa Alhamdulillah

Don’t loose inspiration
Don’t be hard on yourself
You’re one in a billion – 4
You motivate the ones you love
You got your own way
You’re finding places no-one finds
You right out the shadow
Now you’ll be just fine

I got the world on my shoulders
But I don’t care
I got that faith in Allah
That’ll take me there
We got the world on our shoulders
But we don’t care
We have Allah in our hearts
And he’ll take us there

We’re moving mountains
We’re building the bridges
When we fall down
We get up we got that vision
We’re moving mountains
We’re building bridges
When we fall down
We get up we got that vision

ShukranAllah, Wa Alhamdulillah
ShukranAllah, Wa Alhamdulillah
ShukranAllah, Wa Alhamdulillah
ShukranAllah, Wa Alhamdulillah

Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah

ShukranAllah, Wa Alhamdulillah
ShukranAllah, Wa Alhamdulillah
ShukranAllah, Wa Alhamdulillah
ShukranAllah, Wa Alhamdulillah

Alhamdulillah yea

I started a journey
And i’m nowhere near the end.

Links to Quran / Hadith

Links to the Quran and hadith have been numbered above (in purple) and presented below.

1 And I got a message, And I want it to be heard

In the final sermon, the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) told us to spread the message to every corner of the globe

“…All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O Allah, that I have conveyed your message to your people…” (Al-Bukhari, Hadith 1623, 1626, 6361)

We are also taught in Surah Al-Asr that all of mankind are at loss, except those who call to the truth amongst other things:

“By time, Indeed, mankind is in loss, Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience” (Quran 103:1-3)

We’re building the bridges

“Say: “O People of the Book! come to common terms as between us and you: That we worship none but Allah; that we associate no partners with him; that we erect not, from among ourselves, Lords and patrons other than Allah.” If then they turn back, say ye: “Bear witness that we (at least) are Muslims (bowing to Allah’s Will)” (Quran 3:64)

3 Shukran Allah, Wallah Alhamdulillah

This translates to “thank you Allah, Allah be praised”. We are taught to praise Allah in the Quran:

“… and be grateful to Allah, if it is Him you worship” (Al-Baqarah 2:172)

4 You’re one in a billion

In fact we are all unique. There is some evidence to suggest that every human being has a unique fingerprint (Journal of Enam Medical College). This may be why Allah emphasises the fingers when speaking about life after death:

“Does man think that WE Cannot assemble his bones? Nay, WE are able to put Together in perfect order The very tips of his fingers.” (Quran 75:3-4)

Final Thoughts

If you’re a fan of the original you will most likely love this track.

I personally prefer some of the other versions of this song, however that’s not to take away from this track. Great vocals and guitar!

Breathing – Safe Adam

Safe Adam: Breathing Download | MP3 (Amazon)

Despite being track number 10 on the album, Breathing is once again a breath of fresh air.

The song emphasis appreciation for life, and how we should thank Allah for this.

The track begins with a simple piano, and introduces additional instruments as we draw closer to the chorus. It’s not easy to find Nasheeds that are both well-produced and lyrically fabulous.

Let’s assess the lyrics with reference to Quran and Hadith.

Safe Adam – Breathing Lyrics

I try to follow the signs – 1
That’s how I live my life
Cause when I needed my heart it all goes wrong
My journey has been on time
But only for a short while
The road that i’ve been on is far too long
And the pictures never clear when its all gone cold
No more counting my excuses i’ve got to be strong

Right now i’m building bridges – 2
The shortcuts don’t work no more
I’m not taking no more chances
Cause I can bleed no more
I wasn’t born with a heart that’s hollow
So I can help to love
No I don’t want none to follow
I want to do this on my own

Thank God i’m breathing – 3
I’m breathing
Thank God i’m breathing
I’m breathing

When there’s no-where to hide
And what’s wrong feels right
And the places that we know have all gone cold
I will search for the light
And not get pulled by the tide
And I will find the place that I call home
And the picture’s never clear when it’s all gone cold
No more counting my excuses i’ve got to be strong

Right now i’m building bridges
The shortcuts don’t work no more
I’m not taking no more chances
Cause I can bleed no more
I wasn’t born with a heart that’s hollow
So I can help to love
No I don’t want none to follow

Links to the Quran and hadith have been numbered above (in purple) and presented below.

1 I try to follow the signs

Allah placed many signs in this world and referred to them in the Quran:

We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their own selves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Quran) is the truth” (Quran 41:53)

“So today We will save you in body that you may be to those who succeed you a sign. And indeed, many among the people, of Our signs, are heedless” (Quran 10:92) – referring to the preservation of Pharaoh

2 Right now i’m building bridges

“Say: “O People of the Book! come to common terms as between us and you: That we worship none but Allah; that we associate no partners with him; that we erect not, from among ourselves, Lords and patrons other than Allah.” If then they turn back, say ye: “Bear witness that we (at least) are Muslims (bowing to Allah’s Will)” (Quran 3:64)

3 Thank God i’m breathing

It’s important to thank Allah for everything:

“… and be grateful to Allah, if it is Him you worship” (Al-Baqarah 2:172)

Furthermore we are taught that being thankful to Allah is for our benefit, and will not change Allah in the slightest:

“And whoever is grateful, he is only grateful for the benefit of his own self” (Luqman 31:12)

Final Thoughts

Breathing is an uplifting track, perfect if you’re in need of inspiration.

This track serves as a great reminder to those who listen. It’s worth a purchase.

Don’t Be Shy – Safe Adam

Safe Adam: Don’t Be Shy Download | MP3

This is a cover of Yusuf Islam / Cat Stevens’ track from the 1970s.

Yusuf sang this song before converting to Islam in the late 70s, and it was originally written for a film. Despite the mainstream nature of the track, the lyrics are positive and can easily blend into the faith inspired music theme.

Safe Adam has done really well covering this track, I love it!

Track number 8 from the album, Sujood is all about finding Allah.

The track emphasises the importance of turning to Allah at times in need, and teaches that calling out to Allah allows our hearts to find peace.

It has a cinematic sound and the use of violin helps bring emotion and power into the track – giving it a boost up the rating scale.

Please see lyrics below, as usual I have called out links to religious text.

My heart is heavy
My hands are weak
My goals have perished
Oh i’m in need

My soul is empty
I need to find
How do we spend these days and lonely nights?

You ease my pain I only find my peace through you – 2
In my Sujood

My source of hope
You see my tears
And how they fall
I feel the greatness
Of your love
Please have mercy on my soul oh Allah

1 In my Sujood

Sujood means to bow down with your face on the floor. Many of the prophets made Sujood, even those before prophet Muhammed (PBUH). Examples of previous messengers making Sujood can be found in many of the previous religious scriptures. Let’s take a look.

Quran:

“you who believe! Bow down, and prostrate yourselves, and worship your Lord and do good that you may be successful” (Quran 22:77)

Bible:

“Abram fell face down, and God said to him..” (GENESIS 17:3)

“Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped” (Exodus 34:7-9)

“Going a little farther, he (Jesus) fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him” (Mark 14:34-36)

“Ezra praised the LORD, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, “Amen! Amen!” Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground (Nehemiah 8:5-7)

Shikshapatri (Hinduism):

“Offering respect to Him by Sashtang Dandvat Pranam. I consider these eight practices to be of high value. All my disciples shall practise any one of them devoutly as additional religious austerity, during the period of Chaturmasa” (Shikshapatri V78)

Shashtang means to pray by allowing 8 parts of the body to touch the floor. This is achieved through prostration (Sujood).

Sutra of the Three Heaps (Buddhism):

Buddhists are taught to prostrate to the 35 Buddhas. They recite various verses during this including:

“To the Founder, the Transcendent Destroyer, the One Thus Gone, the Foe Destroyer, the Fully Enlightened One, the Glorious Conqueror from the Shakyas, I bow down (Skt: Triskandhadharmasutra)

2 You ease my pain I only find my peace through you

Only in remembrance of Allah (swt) will your heart find peace (Quran 13:28)

Final Thoughts

This is a powerful reminder of the importance of Sujood.

While I favour other tracks on the album over this one, I have certainly enjoyed reviewing this the most – due to the powerful nature of the topic.

Invincible – Safe Adam

Safe Adam: Invincible Download | MP3 (Amazon)

Another huge track from the album. Invincible is different, fresh, uplifting and powerful.

The song has been selected to appear on the “The most beautiful songs in the world” playlist on Spotify – that’s got to tell us something!

Invincible teaches us to have appreciation for everything we have in life, regardless of who we are. When listening to this song, I found myself reflecting over the lyrics and noticed many links to Islamic text.

Let’s go through the lyrics to Invincible, calling out any links or references to Quran and Hadith.

Safe Adam – Invincible Lyrics

I am whatever I will be
I don’t need to be what you need me to be
I thank God for all he’s done for me – 1
You give me so much life
And you make me feel

Invincible, Invincible
You’re the one that gives us power from above – 2
Invincible
You are the love when no one near is close to us – 3
Alhamdulillah
Alhamdulillah

You can be whatever you want to be
Never listen to those who kill your dreams
You have Allah and he will set you free
He will put it right, and make you feel

Invincible, Invincible
You’re the one that gives us power from above
Invincible
You are the love when noone near is close to us

If there’s one thing I know
It’s that seasons come and go – 4
But Allah will keep you warm
And break through the hearts of stone – 5
He can make you

Invincible, Invincible
You’re the one that gives us power from above
Invincible
You are the love when noone near is close to us
Alhamdulillah
Alhamdulillah
Alhamdulillah

Allah’s love has no limits – 6
Allah’s love has no boundaries
For every raindrop that falls
For every ray of sunshine
For everything is under his control – 7
You cannot see Allah – 8
You cannot touch Allah
But you can feel Allah
He is there in every tear that falls
In every smile that shows
Allah is all around us
I am whatever I may be
But Allah has already planned my destiny – 9

I am whatever I will be
Alhamdulillah
I am whatever I will be
Alhamdulillah

Links to Quran / Hadith

Links to the Quran and hadith have been numbered above (in purple) and presented below.

I thank God for all he’s done for me

We are taught to be thankful to Allah in Surah Baqarah:

“… and be grateful to Allah, if it is Him you worship” (Al-Baqarah 2:172)

Furthermore we are taught that being thankful to Allah is for our benefit alone, and will not change Allah in any way:

“And whoever is grateful, he is only grateful for the benefit of his own self” (Luqman 31:12)

2 You’re the one that gives us power from above

“Say: “O Allah! Lord of Power (and Rule) thou givest Power to whom Thou pleasest and Thou strippest off power from whom Thou pleasest thou enduest with honor whom thou pleasest and thou bringest low whom Thou pleasest; in Thy hand is all Good. Verily over all things thou hast power” (Quran 3:26)

3 You are the love when no-one near is close to us

Only in remembrance of Allah (swt) will your heart find peace (Quran 13:28)

Is that seasons come and go

This verse reminds me of Allah’s comments on seasons in the Quran.

Each year we see plants and leaves thriving through the summer and dying in by the winter. Once the rain falls the leaves re-grow, and thus the dead has been brought back to life. This is a reminder that the very same thing will happen to us on the day of judgement. We should reflect on the cycle of seasons with deep thought.

“You see the earth dry and barren and then no sooner than We send down water upon it, it begins to quiver and swell and brings forth every kind of beauteous vegetation. All this is because Allah, He is the Truth, and because He resurrects the dead, and because He has power over everything” (Quran 50:9-11)

“It is Allah Who sends forth winds which then set the clouds in motion, which We drive to some dead land giving a fresh life to earth after it had become dead. Such will be the resurrection of the dead (Quran 35:9)

And break through the hearts of stone

Allah compares hearts to stones in the Quran. Someone with a hard heart is said to be far from the remembrance of Allah.

“Then, after that, your hearts were hardened and became as stones or even worse in hardness. And indeed, there are stones out of which rivers gush forth, and indeed, there are of them (stones) which split asunder so that water flows from them, and indeed, there are of them (stones) which fall down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do” (Quran 2:74)

A side note: The above verse speaks about stones containing water. Scientists have discovered that water is present in meteoroids, and may be an explanation as to how water got onto this Earth before life began. Watch this video for more.

6 Allah’s love has no limits

“Imam al-Tahawi (Allah have mercy on him) states, “He (Allah) is beyond having limits placed on Him, or being restricted, or having parts or limbs. Nor is He contained by the six directions like all the created things.”” (Al-Aqida al-Tahawiyya, Point: 38)

7 For everything is under his control

“GOD is the Creator of all things, and He is in full control of all things” (Quran 39:62)

You cannot see Allah

Prophet Moses asked to see Allah and was made to look at a mountain. When looking at the mountain he fell unconscious:

“And when Musa (Moses) came at the time and place appointed by Us, and his Lord spoke to him, he said: “O my Lord! Show me (Yourself), that I may look upon You.” Allah said: “You cannot see Me, but look upon the mountain if it stands still in its place then you shall see Me.” So when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He made it collapse to dust, and Musa (Moses) fell down unconscious. Then when he recovered his senses he said: “Glory be to You, I turn to You in repentance and I am the first of the believers.”” (Quran 7:143)

9 But Allah has already planned my destiny

Allah has already planned our lives:

“Say: “Nothing shall ever happen to us except what Allah has ordained for us. He is our Mawla (protector).” And in Allah let the believers put their trust”” (Quran 9:51)

Final Thoughts

This is a well-produced nasheed with beautiful vocals.

The inclusion of spoken word is not something often heard in Safe Adam’s songs, he has tried something new and it worked!

It’s amazing to think that such a simple track can contain so much meaning, and allow for much reflection.

Not In My Name – Safe Adam

Safe Adam: Not In My Name Download | MP3 (Amazon)

Wow!

I have heard many songs, poems and speeches teaching us that terrorism has not place in Islam – but this one stands out.

Safe Adam has again provided us with innovative delivery and a fresh track.

When listening to the chorus, I could really feel the passion in his voice. The song starts out flat but quickly builds, taking the listener to another dimension.

Safe was lucky enough to perform this song live on BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) TV. I feel he has been successful in conveying the feelings of many Muslims around the world through this empowering track.

For first time visitors to this site my format is simple. I review Nasheeds and call out references between the lyrics and Quran/Hadith. Before I begin I encourage you to buy this track. You can listen to a preview on Amazon and purchase directly from the site.

Let’s now go through the lyrics, calling out references to Quran and Hadith.

Safe Adam – Not In My Name Lyrics

When I walk i’m loosing ground
I see people but I hear no sound
I feel i’m chasing something
That can’t be found

It’s a battle with our mind
Sensless people with no heart
I was taught to pray and love – 1
No anger in my heart – 2

Not in my name
Not in my name
Not in my name, no
Not in my name

I am a teacher in the Arts
I am a doctor saving lives
I am your neighbour next to your house
I am your friend

Trouble people using our name – 3
It’s causing Muslims so much pain
We are one people one race
As we get older the less we can take

Not in my name
Not in my name
Not in my name, no
Not in my name, no
Not in my name

We pray for everyone around the world
To listen to the call of our thoughts
And they don’t represent an inch of us
False representation

Let’s pray for everyone around the world
To listen to the call of our thoughts
And they don’t represent an inch of us
A false representation

Not in my name
Not in my name
Not in my name, no
Not in my name

Not in my name
Not in my name
Not in my name, no
Not in my name

Links to Quran / Hadith

1 I was taught to pray and love

There are many verses in the Quran about both prayer and kindness.

Establish prayer, and be mindful of Him. To Him you will all be gathered together” (Quran 6:72)

“God does not forbid you from being good to those who have not fought you in the religion or driven you from your homes, or from being just towards them. God loves those who are just.” (Quran Surat al-Mumtahana, 8)

No anger in my heart

Anger can actually hold us back from entering the garden.

“Abu’l-Darda said: I said, O Messenger of Allah, tell me of a deed which will earn me admission to al-Jannah (Paradise). He said, “Do not get angry, and Paradise will be yours.”” (Saheeh at-Targheeb at-Tarheeb, #2749)

Trouble people using our name

The prophet (PBUH) gave us some signs of the day of judgement. One of them is that fighting will increase. It is sad to see it happening, but also acts as a reminder to ourselves that the last day may be near. The prophet said:

“The Hour will come when violence, bloodshed, and anarchy become common (Al-Muttaqi Al-Hindi, Muntakhab Kanzul Ummaal)

“The Harj (will increase).” They asked, “What is the Harj?” He replied, “(It is) killing, (it is) murdering.”(Bukhari)

“Great cities will be ruined and it will be as if they had not existed the day before” (Al-Muttaqi al-Hindi, Al-Burhan fi Alamat al-Mahdi Akhir al-Zaman)

“A time will come when the killer will not know why he killed and the person who was killed will not know why he was killed (Muslim)

Final Thoughts

Amazing song! This track has certainly helped me to reflect.

The choice of lyrics combined with the passion in his voice has made this one of my favourite tracks from the album: Praise.

Like Safe says in the song: Let’s pray for everyone around the world.

Mothers Love – Safe Adam

Safe Adam: Mothers Love Download | MP3 (Amazon)

Three words came to mind after listening to this track: Quick, chirpy  and country.

This track touches on an important subject of looking after your mother. The Hadith says:

“A man came to the Prophet and said, ‘O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship? The Prophet said: Your mother. The man said, ‘Then who?’ The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man further asked, ‘Then who?’ The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man asked again, ‘Then who?’ The Prophet said: Then your father” (Bukhari, Muslim)

There are many Nasheeds about loving your mother. Safe himself did a track related to mothers on his previous album ‘Heart’.

This one is different.

The increased tempo creates a mood of celebration, perhaps celebrating the blessing of mothers. The track is sang from the son’s perspective, letting his mother know that he will be there for her, and make her life easy. It teaches that we should thank and respect our mothers for their dedication and unconditional love.

I will analyse the lyrics for ‘Mothers Love’, calling out any links to Quran and Hadith.

Why not Buy the song on Amazon before reading on?

Safe Adam – Mother Love Lyrics

Tell me if it ain’t easy
I’m here if you need me
Let me heal all you’re aching bones
Don’t be so proud to ask me
I’ll always be your son

It’s time to lay your head down – 1
Let me carry on
Carry on
It’s time to lay your head down
Let me take it on
Take it on

Our faces change
but our hearts don’t stop
I know time’s not fair
But who’s watching the clock
Life’s no walk in the park – 2
Every step is with love

There’s no denying
A Mothers love
A Mothers love

The creases around your eyes
Could tell a thousand stories
But no-one can deny
The son that’s still to haunt you
But to lift your life of doing good
and put on others before you

It’s time to lay your head down
Let me carry on
Carry on
It’s time to lay your head down
Let me take it on
Take it on

Our faces change
but our hearts don’t stop
I know time’s not fair
But who’s watching the clock
Life’s no walk in the park
Every step is with love

There’s no denying
A Mothers love
A Mothers love

Heaven will always be beneath you – 3
Heaven will always be beneath you

“We have enjoined on man kindness to his parents; in pain did his mother bear him, and in pain did she give him birth” (Quran 46:15)

2 “And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah ]” (Quran 2:45)

3 “The Prophet Muhammad said, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him: Your Heaven lies under the feet of your mother (Sunan Nasai, Ch.6, Hadith 3106 )

Final Thoughts

It’s refreshing to hear Nasheeds like this. I really like the country sound.

Safe Adam has taken a common lesson that you will hear in many nasheeds, but given it a new flavour.

While I feel he needs to be careful on the high notes, Safe has certainly produced a track that will be repeated over and over by many.

I encourage people to support Nasheed artists like Safe by buying the track rather than downloading free.

Bayaan – Safe Adam

Safe Adam: Bayaan Download | MP3 (Amazon)

Warning, this song has the power to bring a tear to your eye.

In this track, Safe tells us a story of how he met a young orphan girl named Bayaan. Verse by verse, Safe brings to life the situation of this child, and reminds us about the life changing impact of poverty and war.

Not only does the song present a powerful and emotional message, but it is also produced and sang really well.

Let’s go through the lyrics, picking up on any links to Quran and Hadith.

Buy the song on Amazon.

Safe Adam – Bayaan Lyrics

I’ve travelled the world now – 1
I feel my heart’s changing
Now my heart beats harder than before
and now it’s aching
so much ahead of you now
now i’m wishing for a change

As I wipe the tears form my face
A young girl so out of place
With the saddest eyes looking at me
I ask her for her name

She replied her name is Bayaan – 2
9 years old with no mum
As she spoke to me
with her brother in her arms
I could feel my heart breaking apart

She replied her name is Bayaan
9 years old with no mum
As she spoke to me
with her brother in her arms
I could feel my heart breaking apart

For Bayaan I make Dua – 3
Give her peace InShaAllah
For Bayaan I make Dua
Give her peace InShaAllah
For Bayaan I make Dua
Give her peace InShaAllah
For Bayaan I make Dua
Give her peace InShaAllah

She replied her name is Bayaan
9 years old with no mum
As she spoke to me
with her brother in her arms
I could feel my heart breaking apart

(Assumed dialogue between Safe and Bayaan)

She replied her name is Bayaan
9 years old with no mum
As she spoke to me
with her brother in her arms
I could feel my heart breaking apart

For Bayaan I make Dua
Give her peace InShaAllah
For Bayaan I make Dua
Give her peace InShaAllah
For Bayaan I make Dua
Give her peace InShaAllah
For Bayaan I make Dua
Give her peace InShaAllah

1 Travelling has been encouraged by Allah in the Quran. Allah tells us to travel in order to learn new things:

Do they then not travel through the Earth, so that their minds gain wisdom and their ears thus learn to hear?” (Quran 22:46)

We are also encouraged to travel in order to learn from the mistakes of people in the past:

“And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): “Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut (all false deities, etc. i.e. do not worship Taghut besides Allah).” Then of them were some whom Allah guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth)” (Quran 16:36)

2 Bayan is an Arabic name for boys and girls that means “to make clear” or “to speak with eloquence”. The word Bayan is used three times in the Quran:

“This [Quran should be] a clear lesson unto all men, and a guidance and an admonition unto the God-conscious” (Quran 3:138)

“Conceal the clear (Signs) We have sent down, and the Guidance, after We have made it clear for the people” (Quran 2:159)

“and has taught him articulate speech (Quran 55:4)

3 “There is nothing more dear to Allah Ta’ala than a servant making dua to him.” (Hadith At Tirmidhi)

Final Thoughts

While there are many Nasheeds on this topic, Bayaan sits right at the top.

I feel this song has the power to pull at heart strings.

This emotional track should help people reflect on the situation of many around the world. I hope it encourages listeners to give for a good cause. Whether that be money, time or simply raising awareness – as Safe has done.

Praise by Safe Adam – We Should Do It More

Safe Adam: Praise Download | MP3 (Amazon)

As the title track from the album, Praise had high expectations – and I wasn’t disappointed.

This song has one simple message – Praise Allah.

While the track has been kept simple lyrically, it subtly refers to key messages presented in the Quran and Hadith.

Let’s analyse!

Buy the song on Amazon.

Safe Adam – Praise Lyrics

I will praise ya in the morning – 1
to the sunset in the evening – 2
I will praise you
I will praise you

When i’m drowning under water – 3
In the deepest darkest ocean – 4
I will praise you
I will praise you

and I , I was born to praise you – 5
I was born to praise you
and ooo, I was born to praise you

Bismillah, Al-Rahman, Al-Rahim
Bismillah, Al-Rahman, Al-Rahim

The merciful creator – 6
Made our prophets walk on water – 7
I will praise you

fall on you to rise above it
I will praise you
I will praise you

and I , I was born to praise you

You are the creator
All that matters

You are the creator

We seek Allah for Protection
You have my whole heart and affection
We worship you, and only you are perfection
The Quran is what we are tested on, our life is the lesson

Bismillah, Al-Rahman, Al-Rahim
Bismillah, Al-Rahman, Al-Rahim

I will praise you in the morning
To the sunset in the evening
I will praise you

Links to Quran /Hadith

1 I will praise ya in the morning

Indeed we are taught to pray first thing in the morning, known as the Fajr prayer.

“And in the hours before dawn they would ask forgiveness” (Quran 51:18)

2 To the sunset in the evening

Perform the prayers at the sun’s decline till the darkness of the night, and during the intensification of the (lights of) dawn; for the intensification of the (lights of) dawn is visible” (Quran 17:78)

3 When i’m drowning under water

These lyrics remind me of the verses on Pharaoh in the Quran. When he was downing in the sea he said:

“I believe that none has the right to be worshipped but He (Allah) in Whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am one of the Muslims (those who submit to Allaah’s Will)” (Yunus 10:90)

He converted to Islam and became Muslim, however Allah did not accept it.  Allah tells us that he will preserve his body as a lesson to mankind.

“So this day We shall deliver your body (out from the sea) that you may be a sign to those who come after you! And verily, many among mankind are heedless of Our Ayaat’ (Yunus 10:92).

The body of Pharaoh is still available to see at a museum in Egypt. Pharaoh asking for forgiveness while drowning (despite disbelieving) teaches us the importance of praising Allah in all situations.

4 In the deepest darkest ocean

The darkness of the ocean is actually called out in the Quran:

“Or [the unbelievers’ state] are like the darkness of a fathomless sea which is covered by waves above which are waves above which are clouds, layers of darkness, one upon the other. If he puts out his hand, he can scarcely see it. Those Allah gives no light to, they have no light” (Qur’an, 24:40)

5 and I , I was born to praise you

“We did not create the jinn and men except to worship us.” (Qur’an 51:56)

6 The merciful creator

One of the names of Allah is ‘Al-Rahim‘, which means ‘the merciful‘.

7 Made our prophets walk on water

The subject of Jesus (PBUH) walking on water is not mentioned in the Quran, however it is mentioned in the Bible:

“Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear” (Bible – Mathew 14:25-26)

We are taught that the original Bible was from Allah, but to read with caution as people have changed the book. The miracle of Jesus walking on water is not contradicting to the Islamic belief and may therefore be the truth. Allah knows best.

Final Thoughts

Safe has managed to convey deep meaning with a simple track. It’s no wonder he chose to name the album after this one.

I really enjoyed listening to this one.
