Hamood: Kun Anta Download (UK |US)
I don’t understand Arabic, however this track plays in my head all day!
Awakening Records produce for a number of well-known artists such as Maher Zain, Harris J and Mesut Kurtis. At the time of writing this review, Kun Anta is one of the most viewed tracks on their Youtube channel – with over 67 million views.
The song has a catchy chorus but I was even more impressed after reading a translation of the lyrics.
Why? What’s the song about?
This track is all about being happy with what you have, and not getting attached to money. The title Kun Anta actually means ‘Be Yourself’.
There are many tracks about this topic, for example Deen Over Dunya by Safe Adam shares a similar message.
A non-music version of the song is available for those who would rather keep clear of instruments.
Not only is this song fantastic, but the video is one of the best i’ve seen!
Music Video
The video is available free on the official Awakening Records Youtube Channel. It features Humood and several others posing as mannequins, who come to life and bust into song.
Mannequins coming to life can look rather scary to some, however the highly saturated colour grading helps bring a happy, positive feel to the video.

Now onto the lyrics.
Humood – Kun Anta Lyrics
The below is a translation of the lyrics to Kun Anta by Humood. Le’t analyse with reference to Quran and Hadith.
In order to keep up with them,
I imitated their looks and exterior
So I became someone else, just to boast
And I thought that through that I’d gained a fortune
But I found that I’d lost, for these are mere appearances
No, no
We don’t need wealth – 1
In order to increase in beauty
Our essence is here, in our hearts it shines
No, no
We will not seek to please others with that
Which we deem to unbefitting for ourselves – 2
That is our beauty, rising and ascending above
Oh wo oh… Oh wo oooh
Oh wo oh… Oh wo oooh
Oh wo oh… Oh wo oooh
Be yourself and you will increase in beauty
Oh wo oh… Oh wo oooh
Oh wo oh… Oh wo oooh
Oh wo oh… Oh wo oooh
Be yourself and you will increase in beauty
La la la la la la la La la la
I accept people but I don’t imitate them
Except for what I agree with, to satisfy myself
I will just be myself, just the way I am, this is me
My conviction suffices, this is my certainty
No, no
We don’t need wealth
In order to increase in beauty
Our essence is here, in our hearts it shines
No, no
We will not seek to please others with that
Which we deem to unbefitting for ourselves
That is our beauty, rising and ascending above
Oh wo oh… Oh wo oooh
Oh wo oh… Oh wo oooh
Oh wo oh… Oh wo oooh
Be yourself and you will increase in beauty
Oh wo oh… Oh wo oooh
Oh wo oh… Oh wo oooh
Oh wo oh… Oh wo oooh
I’ll be what I please to be
I won’t seek their acceptance
I’ll be whom I love to be
Why would I acre about their acceptance?

Links to Quran / Hadith
Links to the Quran and hadith have been numbered (in purple) and presented below.
1 We don’t need wealth
Wealth is a blessing, but not everyone has it. The Quran teaches to focus on the hereafter rather than getting too caught up in the world.
Back in the old days the worldly life referred to gold, cattle and good land. These days money, jewellery and fancy cars could apply.
“Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire – of women and sons, heaped-up sums of gold and silver, fine branded horses, and cattle and tilled land. That is the enjoyment of worldly life, but Allah has with Him the best return.” (Quran 3:14)
2 We will not seek to please others with that, Which we deem to unbefitting for ourselves
It’s important to put pleasing Allah as priority. Associating others with Allah is actually the worst sin in Islam, known as Shirk – the only unforgivable sin.
“Say, “O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you – that we will not worship except Allah and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allah.” But if they turn away, then say, “Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him].”” (Quran 3:64)
“”Verily, Allah forgives not the sin of setting up partners in worship with Him, but He forgives whom He wills sins other than that. And whoever sets up partners in worship with Allah, has indeed strayed far from the path.”” (Quran 4:116)
Final Thoughts
This is now my favourite Arabic track. I like the tune, video and most of all the meaning.
